Growing Old with Humor

Great Truths about Growing Old

1. Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
2. Forget health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3. When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down.
4. You are getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you get from a roller coaster.
5. It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you.
6. Time may be great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7. Wisdom come with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

Thanksgiving Blessings

What a fun day. We went to church in the morning to thank God together for all his many blessings. Then on to our sons' home for Thanksiging dinner. What a feast! Such delicious food! After clean-up we listened to our teen-age grandsons (and guest) play their instruments downstairs. What a good time they had. We watched a movie and played games. Later in the afternoon the son who was not able to be with us for dinner showed up with his son so we enjoyed time with them also. When we got back home it was very quiet..............but nice. We are so blest!

Tips for Tuesday

More uses for vinegar:
.....Get rid of calcium deposits on faucets by soaking a cloth or paper towel in vinegar and wrapping the area tightly. Let this sit for a couple of hours or overnight. Rinse off.

.....Clean grout by letting full strength vinegar sit on it for a few minutes and scrubbing it with an old toothbrush.

.....Clean a fiberglass tub almost effortlessly by sprinkling it liberally with baking soda, then wiping it down with a vinegar-soaked cloth. Rinse and wipe dry for a spotless shine.

.....Clean shower door tracks by filling them with white vinegar and letting this sit for a few hours. Pour hot water into the tracks and with a brush, wash and scrub away the scum.

Our grandson, the Drummer

Sunday morning my husband and I attended a local church where my grandson, Jimmy, is the drummer in their praise band. He is awesome. The whole band is awesome. We were so proud. We feel it is so important for our teenagers to feel a sense of belonging where they worship. We're glad Jimmy has found this place at this time in his life.

Thought for Thursday

Give Us Daily Awareness
On life's busy thoroughfares
We meet with angels unawares -
So, Father, make us kind and wise
So we may always recognize
the blessings that are ours to take,
the friendships that are ours to make
if we but open our heart's door wide
to let the sunshine of love inside.
Helen Steiner Rice
Enjoy your day!

Wednesday's Quote

God has mercies to give, and He intends to give them to us,
those mercies are not broken pieces or someone else's leftovers........
God has bags that were never untied, never opened up, but set aside
through a thousand generations for
those who hope in His mercy.
John Bunyan

Thoughts for Monday

I just returned home from the dentist. His assistant was out sick so he had to do all the work himself. I had a cavity that needed to be redone.
Lately when I go to the dentist I have trouble with breathing while he is working on me. He tells me I don't breath through my nose. I breath from the mouth. I'm not sure about that but I didn't argue with him. (It is rather hard to argue when he has his hands in my mouth, you know.) Of course, he numbed me so when I went home I could only see out of eye. Not the best way to be driving! So now after $160.00 I am back home and ready to get to work. Washing, cleaning, maybe reading a good book..........
Later I need to go for theraphy on my neck and shoulder. (I try to keep everyone in business.)

Sunday Blessings

It's a good thing to have all the props pulled out from under us occasionally.
I give us some sense of what is rock under our feet, and what is sand.
Let God be exalted,
The Rock of my salvation!

Update

I received word from my Doctor about my biospy of my thyroid. The type of cells that were found can be cancer. Therefore, surgery to remove this nocule will take place on Dec. 9. It will be out-patient surgery if it is not cancer. They will check the nocule after surgery and if it is cancer they will proceed to take the thyroid out. Then I will have to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days following surgery. So that is where it stands for now. I am going to continue to claim it is not cancer until I am told differently. Thanks for your prayers. God has a plan and it includes me!

Tips for Tuesday

Uses for Vinegar:

.....Add 1/2 cup vinegar to the dishwasher rinse cycle to get dishes and glassware sparkling.

....Remove the chalky deposit sometimes left on dishes in the dishwasher. Place the dishes on the lower rack and run the machine for about five minutes with a cup of vinegar added. Then run a complete cycle with your regular detergent.

.....Check owners' manual before trying to remove mineral deposits from coffee makers with vinegar. If its use is approved, fill the water reservoir with 1 cup or more of vinegar and run it through the whole cycle. Run it once or more with plain water to rinse clean.

Ponderings for Monday

I'm sitting at my computer at 2 a.m. - I can't sleep - I have much on my mind..........
We started meeting for a Small Group Bible study last evening. We are studying the Book of James. The first chapter tells us we should "count it all joy " when we come into trials. Trials help us to mature in our faith. Personally I'm not one that ask God to send me a trial so I can become more mature. But I can say that when trials come, I do see the value of them for my spiritual well-being. I know that when trials come, I am not alone. God walks with me through them.
On Wednesday I go to have a biospy on a lump the doctors found on my thyroid. Hopefully this will tell me that everything is okay. I am told that 95% of the time this is true. But what if it isn't? I do know that God will walk me through it. He promises to and He never breaks a promise.

Sunday Blessings

This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22,23

Antique Friday

This a bowl I received from my mother-in-law. She always served a lettuce salad in this bowl. I think the bowl is beautiful and her salad was always delicious. I miss it.......
The salt and pepper shakers in their holder was given to me by my Aunt. They were a wedding present that she received. Therefore, they are very old.

There is also a metal bank in the picture. I got that from my parents things.

The bread sign says "Give us this day our daily bread."

I only like antiques that are given to me by someone I know and love.

Do not put Him off with faded leaves.

Food for Thought for Wednesday

We must move from asking God to take care of the things
that are breaking our heart,
to praying about the things that are breaking His heart.

Tips for Tuesday

.....Clean and deodorize a drain by pouring 1 cup baking soda, then 1 cup hot vinegar (your microwave is perfect for heating the vinegar) Let this sit for 5 minutes or so, then run hot water down the drain. This same process (cutting the amount to 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 hot vinegar) will also clean and deodorize the garbage disposal.

.....Or try vinegar ice cubes to deodorize and clean the garbage disposal. Make them by freezing vinegar in a ice cube try. Run several cubes down the disposal while flushing with cold water. As the vinegar freezes it will deordorize the freezer as well.

.....Clean the microwave oven by mixing 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 of water in a microwave-safe bowl and bringing it to a rolling boil so the inside streams up. Bake-on food will be loosened. Wipe clean. Odors will disappear too.

We had a tremendous amount of rain last week. This is a picture of the creek that run along our property. The water was up to our garage. It has since gone down again. We have a sum-pump that runs continually in our basement so we do not get water in the house. We would be in deep trouble if the pump stop working. It does make a beautiful picture doesn't it?
