A THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

I came across this quote of Max Lucado -

Our prayers may be awkward.  Our attempts may be feeble.  But since the power of prayer is in the One who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

No more wasted paint.   If you have the most common kind of paint can, where the rim collects excess paint from your brush, carefully drill a few holes in the rim.  The paint that comes off of your brush will go back into the can through the holes.  When you put the lid on the can, it will cover the holes and keep the paint from drying out.

IT'S MONDAY....

We had Sunday dinner at our son and daughter-in-laws home to celebrate their daughter and my birthday.  Melissa was born on my birthday 26 years ago.
The dinner was delicious and it was good to spend time with all of them.

THOUGHTS FOR THURSDAY

Never start your day with broken pieces of YESTERDAY.  It will definitely destroy your wonderful TODAY and ruin your great TOMORROW.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Put several liners in the wastebasket at once.  When the basket is full, take out the trash in the top liner, leaving the liner underneath already in place.  (I use plastic bags from the grocery store to my smaller wastebaskets.)    Saving money.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Here's a great way to save time in finding the beginning of an already started roll of tape--just place a toothpick under the end each time you finish using it.

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

The secret of happy living is not to do what you like, but to like what you do.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Put open, empty perfume or cologne bottles (or the fragrance cards from magazines) in your underwear drawer or linen closet.  The aroma will gently infuse your things.

MONDAY MUSINGS

Yesterday (Sunday) following our worship service we had a Potluck at church.  We were pleased with a great turn-out and a lot of delicious food.  This is the first potluck we've had in a long time.  The comments were "we should do this more often" and "when is the next one?"  It is quite a bite of work to set things up but it is so worth it!  A great time of good food and good fellowship.  What is better than that?

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

In God's sight, one is never so empty as when one is full of self.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

TIP FOR TUESDAY

A hint I read about just the other day:

Do not put uncooked pasta in see-through (plastic or glass) containers.  Exposure to light contributes to the break-down of the vitamin content that's in fortified pasta.  Stored in airtight, non-see-through canisters in a cool, dry place, fortified pasta will retain its benefits for up to 18 months.

IT'S MONDAY

After a busy Easter  I found these beautiful flowers growing in our woods.  It always interests me in how seeds will blow into our woods and produce flowers amongst the weeds and trees. The Spring flowers remind me of Easter - a new beginning, new life.
HE IS RISEN!! HALLELUJAH!!  I hope you had a Blessed Easter..........

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

A good memory is fine - but the ability to forget is the true test of greatness.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

To keep fresh mushrooms fresh, keep them in a basket or in an open brown paper bag in the refrigerator. Do not wash or soak fresh mushrooms in water.  The mushrooms are sponge-like and they will absorb the water.  This will make them watery and tasteless.  Instead, clean them with a damp cloth, or gently scape them with a paring knife.

SPRING CLEANUP

Spring is here!  Lots of sunshine and lots of rain this past weekend.  My husband did begin to clean up the yard and put the bricks around our side yard.  We have a big yard so we have a lot of work to do yet.  But it is a start.........

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Best way to remove the fat after making homemade soup:
If time allows, the best method of removing fat is refrigeration until the fat hardens.  If you put a piece of waxed paper over the top of the soup, etc. it can be peeled off, along with the hardened fat.

Monday Happenings

I'm off to put in my time at Love in the Name of Christ.  Love is a thrift store in Allendale, MI.
It's fun to volunteer at a place like that because you never know what treasure one will find.  The funds generated from the store go to help people pay for their rent, heating bills, food, etc.  It isn't used as a hand-out but a "hand-up".   Enjoy your day!

A THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

The tongue has no bones, but it is strong enough to break a heart; so be careful with your words.

A TIP FOR TUESDAY

A check-out girl at Family Fare gave me a great tip on how to keep my celery crisp.  She told me to take the celery out of the plastic bag and wrap the celery in TIN FOIL.  I tried it- it worked.  My celery last much longer than I was used too.  Try it you'll like it!!

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realize how blessed you are.

A THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Fog Prevention - Smear a tiny dollop of foam shaving cream or liquid dish detergent on both sides of your eyeglasses, and wipe it off with a soft cloth.  Doing this leaves a very thin, invisible coating on the lenses...which will help fend off moisture...which will prevent the glasses from fogging up each time you come out of the cold.

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

We should certainly count our blessings, but we should also make our blessings count.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

After using a steel-wool pad, if there's some scrub left in in, place it in a little plastic bag and store it in the freezer.  It will stay rust-free.  When you're ready to use again, put it under warm water and it will thaw in a few seconds.

Sadness in the neighborhood

We got word yesterday that the neighbors dog was found dead in his pen.  Of course his owners are saddened by this.  Pets can become part of a family.  They can be replaced but there is sadness when one passes.  I am sure in time there will be a new puppy (maybe) running in the yard across the street but until that time, there is sadness.  We will miss her.

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

Life is short, break the rules, FORGIVE quickly, KISS slowly, LOVE truly, LAUGH uncontrollably, and NEVER REGRET anything that makes you SMILE.

Monday, February 17, 2014

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Revive Old Nail Polish - If your nail polish has gotten thick and gloppy, let the bottle sit in hot water for about 5 minutes, and it should be good as new.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Keep paint brushes longer --  You may want to rub a few drops of vegetable oil into the bristles of a clean, dry paintbrush.  This will keep them soft and reusable.

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

Success comes in cans.  Failure comes in can't.

Monday, January 27, 2014

TIP FOR TUESDAY

If you think you've squeezed every last bit of toothpaste out of the tube--think again.  Place the tube in a glass of hot water for 1 or 2 minutes.  As the heat makes the tube expand, it will release any paste stuck on the sides, and you should be able to get 2 or 3 more squishes out of it.

IT'S MONDAY

We had a quiet weekend.  Church was cancelled because of weather conditions. The weather report for today is "if you don't have to get out - STAY HOME".  Schools are closed.....back to bed kids.
Hopefully this will change SOON.  I'm tired of this snow but it makes me think about the people who live through a hurricane or tornado....and then I have it pretty good.  I have a warm home, plenty of food etc.   Lots to be thankful for.

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

Remember when you feel you're "drowning" in life's situations, don't worry.
                       Your lifeguard walks on water.

WORDLESS/PICTURELESS WEDNESDAY

I have my pictures saved in PICASA.  Every time I try to publish a picture it says Error 502.  I don't know how to fix it.  Sometimes if I wait long enough it will fix itself but today is not one of those times.  Hence no picture.   So I'll just wish everyone a good day and leave it at that.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Coffee filters are good for more than just being used as filters for your coffee machine.
I use them regularly for covering food in the microwave or they can be used as a dish for solid foods you would heat in the microwave.  They are very inexpensive and you can buy them in large quantities.
 Enjoy your Tuesday............

ITS MONDAY...

It was a rather quiet weekend..........seems good,  after a busy week.
Today I'm working at Love INC again.  People keep bringing in their donated goods and we keep marking and bringing the items to the store for people to buy.  Love store is having a BIG sale this week.  Men and Ladies clothes $1.00   We expect it to be very busy this week.  I enjoy my work.

I hope you enjoy your work today too.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Keep your brown sugar soft -- toss a couple of marshmellows in your bag or jar of brown sugar to prevent it from getting hard as a rock.

CAN'T SLEEP

What does one do when one can't sleep?  It is one of those nights AGAIN when I can't get to sleep. Tossing and turning the night away; it is so frustrating!  No pain, no worries just can't sleep.....

THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY

Advice is like snow, the softer it falls,
the longer it dwells upon and the deeper it sinks into the mind.

Monday, January 6, 2014

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Be dishwasher safe - It's safe to put anodized aluminum, stainless steel, enameled cast-iron and glass cookware in a dishwasher.  But NEVER put aluminum, copper, or cast-iron cookware in a dishwasher.  I learned this lesson the hard way.  My aluminum pan looks awful!!

It's Monday! SNOW DAY

The kids have one more day of vacation.  The weather guys/girls predict a blast of very cold air coming this morning so the schools have declared a "snow day". They didn't want the kids standing out in the cold waiting for the bus.

When my kids were school age we had to car pool to school.  We didn't have a bus coming past our home.  The neighbors all got together and each took a week and carpooled all the kids to school.  That was before seat belts so we could really pack those kids in.  I know that sounds really foreign and unsafe now.

He had one father in the bunch that had retired early because of a heart condition.  If one of the Moms would have a baby that had to get out with her then he would take her place for a semester. I know he helped me out at one time and I was so thankful I didn't have to get the baby up and out every day. (We didn't have car seats like they do today either; one of the kids would just hold the baby.)  I'm glad we've made some changes today about that.

So one more day of vacation kids....help your Mom today, play some inside games and be kind to each other.

TIP FOR TUESDAY

Does the gears of your can opener get guck on them?   Here is a way of cleaning,  that works for me.

Run a few small stripes of waxed paper through the can opener to clean out bites of pieces that have built up in the gears.  The wax will also rub off on the gears to protect for future use as well.

Happy New Year

2014 is here..............Remember when we were all worried with the beginning of 2000?  And now it is already 2014.  What will this year bring?   I believe we will experience happiness, some sadness perhaps, some disappointment and a few heartaches possibly. We really don't know, do we.
The one thing we do know is we are never alone.  No matter what comes into our life this 2014. We have a Comforter and a Savior who goes with us each step of the way.
