I want to show you a few more antiques that were given to me by my parents.
Does anyone remember a salt and pepper shaker like this one?
Or how about the strawberry?
The old clock I got from a garage sale.
Notice the door knobs....the shelf had pegs and I changed them to the door knobs.
This high shelf is hung on our kitchen wall. Thank you for looking.

Thought for Wednesday

Time is not measured
By the years that you live,
But by the deeds that you do
And the joy that you give.

Those who devise good meet loyalty and faithfulness.
Proverbs 14:22

Today recognize the importance of doing an act of kindness. One small deed accomplished is better than a hundred unfulfilled promises.

Vinegar Tips for Tuesday

....Shine up chrome sink fixtures that are marred with stains or lime buildup by cleaning them with a paste made of 2 Tablespoons salt and 1 teaspoon distilled vinegar.

....Let a vinegar-soaked cloth lie on a stubborn water stain or mineral deposits for an hour or so, then scrub with the salt/vinegar mixture again.

....Make your own scouring cleanser by combining 1/4 cup baking soda with 1 tablespoon liquid detergent. Add just enough white vinegar to give it a thick but creamy texture.

....Spray vinegar full strength on a cutting board after its last use at night and don't rinse it off. The smell will evaporate and the acidic energy will have done its job.

.....Or rub it down first with baking soda and spray the surface with full strength vinegar. It will bubble for a bit and then subside. Let this set for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing it clean with water.

One Final Word

A Happy Marriage Takes Three

Most people think a marriage is
A partnership of two
But these little words of wisdom
I will relate to you.

The happiest of marriages
Has another partner near
Who can handle every storm of life
And make problems disappear.

He's the guide along life's pathway
He's the glue that bonds with love
He's the one who makes a dream come true
And sends blessings from above.

This partner's name is Jesus
Always trust Him and you'll see
Marriages are sweeter
In a partnership of three.

Our Big Night

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday night with family and friends. Sorry my pictures are not that good but we had a great time. A delicious chicken/ham dinner with all the trimmings was served. Our daughter-in-law sang and everyone enjoyed her too. What fun it was to spend some quality time with those we love so much. I just wanted to share it with my blog friends too.

Exciting Day

My husband and I will be celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary tonight with a dinner for our family and close friends. We've been planning this for some time and the day is finally here. We are having the dinner in our church with a group of ladies fixing a delicious meal.
Last night our kids and us set up tables, set the tables and did a little decorating. We put my wedding dress and my miniature bride dress up. My Aunt (who raised me) made both of these dresses. We also put baby pictures of our children on the board.
Where did those 50 year ago? I remember when other people would have their 50th, I would think they were getting rather old. But not any more.
We are very thankful for the many years we have had together and are looking forward to many more, God willing.

Words for Wednesday

Everything is by comparsion,
Both the bitter and the sweet,
And it takes a bit of both of them
To make our lives complete.
Today maintain an attitude of thanksgiving. Be thankful for all events in your life;
sorrows and joys, failures and successes, the valleys and the mountains.

Vinegar Tips for Tuesday

Kitchen Odor Eaters:
...Remove kitchen oders that come from burnt pots or when cooking certain vegetables by bringing to a boil a small amount of water with 1/4 cup vinegar so that the steam circulates in the room. Add a few shakes of cinnamon or potourri to the water for extra fragrance.

...Rub vinegar on your hands to make onion odor disappear, as well as stains from fruits such as berries.

...You've burned yourself in the kitchen? Pour a dash of vinegar on a cloth and lay it on your burn. This works on sunburn as well.

...Whoops! you added to much salt to a recipe. Add a spoonful of vinegar and sugar to try correcting the taste.

A thought for Monday

Use the talents you have,
The woods would be silent if no birds
sang except those that sing best.

Wednesday's Quote

See each morning a world made new, as if it were the morning of the very first day;...
treasure it, use it, as if it were the final hour of the very last day.

Depress Shopping

I am really depressed. I went shopping at the mall today looking for a new pants or jeans. I wanted just a nice casual cotton blend pants in black or brown. I couldn't find any that fit. I looked for jeans and that was worse yet. The regular sizes were too big and the petites were to small. By the time I found one to fit the hips it was too big around the waist. They are cut so low - way below waist. So if you have a little bit of a belly (you get the picture!). What is a woman to do? I know I am not a teenager anymore, far from it, BUT I don't want to dress like an elderly lady either yet. So in the meantime, I will just wear what I have.................When are the apparel companys doing to make sizes that fit the mature woman! We are out there too.............. What are your feelings about this subject? Maybe if we all get together and conplain loudly, they will hear us. All together now! I will say this - I saw alot of women my age wearing those jeans today that should not be wearing them..............Maybe I am one of them.

Tips for Tuesday

....Add just a dash of vinegar to pasta as it cooks, to make it less sticky and to cut some of the starch.

....Give homemade bread a shining crust by brushing the top of a loaf with vinegar a few minutes before baking is finished. Return to the hot oven to complete baking.

...Keep cheese fresh longer by wrapping it in a cloth moistened with vinegar. For extra protection, store the cheese in a sealed container.

....Make ketchup and other condiments last longer when the bottle is almost empty by adding a little vinegar and shaking or mixing it well.

Sunday's Message

This year our Mission Emphasis theme is "Love in Many Languages". Our pastor for today gave us four points on how to minister to people who do not know the Lord. 1) keep in contact 2) keep in prayer 3) keep encouraging and 4) keep speaking the many languages of love. We were reminded that we bring the Word, many times by our actions and deeds BUT God changes the heart.
Many times I get discouraged; I stop praying because I don't see any change in a persons behavior or actions. That is wrong on my part. God chooses the time and place, not me. I just need to be faithful in doing God's work of bringing the Good News to the world.
This was a message I needed to hear. How about you?

A Recipe for Life

Take a cup of kindness,
Mix it well with love,
Add a lot of patience
And faith in God above.
Be patient and you will finally win, for a soft tongue can
break hard bones. Proverbs 25:15 TLB
Today blend kindness, love and patience. Sift in a generous amount of faith.
You'll have a no-fail recipe for life.

My Fall Friend

I want to introduce you to my new fall friend. This little girl comes out to visit in September and stays until after Thanksgiving. She is very comfortable in our home. She doesn't say anything; just sits quietly and smiles. Isn't she cute?

Grandma is so Proud

The jazz band of our local high school was looking for a project of making jingles so he contacted the local Chamber of Commerce to find a business willing to work with the students. The local Hardware store took them up their project. The students created a few different jingles and settled on one ditty and started polishing in the high school's production studio. The result was an easy-tempo piece with a smooth electric guitar, splash of drums and a sweet clarinet hook.
My grandson was one of students who worked on this jingle. He is a very talented guitar player, self-taught. This jingle will be used in radio advertisements on 99.3 WJQK-FM.
I have two more grandsons who are very good on the drums. One plays for an area church and the other one plays for his own entertainment. Grandma is soooooo proud.

Another Blessing

It is Mission Emphasis Week at our church. This is a week when we have some of the missionaries we support come to tell us about their work.
Sunday morning we had a young pastor who works for Back to God Hour Ministries International - Russia. He was born in Russia and lived there until he came to Calvin College to persue the ministry. He told us he first learned about Christianity from Christian Radio. When he was eighteen he received the Gospel of John and from there he found Christ.
I thought of all the Bibles we have in our home. How God has always been involved in my life. My earliest memories include Jesus and His love for me. I was reminded of all the many people in this world who do not know Christ. What a privilege I had growing up in a Christian home.
But isn't it wonderful - regardless of our background or heritage - God finds his chosen ones and brings salvation.

Garage Sale Friday

Several bloggers are showing what they purchase at garage sales or second-hand stores. As I have said in the past I work at a Love INC store in my area. Here is some of the treasures I bought recently. The small cup and saucer is an antique given to me by my Aunt. The cup and saucer came from the Netherlands. The other items I purchased at the Love store. Do you enjoy antiques or old things that you find at second-hand stores? Share with me your treasures.

Thought for Thursday

When your day is pressure-packed
And your hours are all too few,
Just close your eyes and meditate
And let God talk to you.
May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.
Psalm 104:34
Today do not be concerned about outward appearances; rather
concentrate on the necessity and importance of inner beauty.
